ABOUT US

After the initial success of 'Sail Curaçao 500' (1999), in 2002 "Americas' Sail" was invited to organize our first regatta as host port and starting point. The Regatta started from our port on June 6th and finished June 30, 2002 in St. Petersburg (Fla-USA) via Jamaica. Participants were "Insulinde"(Curaçao), "Bat'kivshchyna" (Ukraine), "Polynesia" (Granada), "Cisne Branco" (Brazil), "Jaguar" and "HM Bloys van Treslong" (Royal Dutch Navy).

These participating vessels meant an increase of 200% as compared to our first Festival in 1999, when we attracted three ships; these figures mean a small but a success nevertheless.

In following this line of thought, since then we have been offering the following attractive new initiatives:

The harbour area including Waaigat, Spaanse Water and Piscadera Bay - to interested yachts as their home or return port using i.a. the planned new facilities in and around the harbour.

Deep-water dockage for mega-yachts and other large vessels; we may be one of the few in the region, specialized in handling their special needs of deep side tie dockage, fueling, watering, repairing and provisioning.

Host individual tall ships as their countries' "sailing ambassadors" and stage commercial and other activities during these visits.

Involve our local population to take advantage of our uniqueness and turn first time tourists into recurring visitors.

Develop cooperation with other tall ship organizations abroad and host sustainable nautical events every few years.

Within this mandate the Curaçao Sail Foundation will be organizing its future events. So ... stay tuned.

The Board of the Foundation consists of the following members:

Mrs. Lourdes Ezechiëls LLM. (Founder|President|CEO), Mr. Hubert Martha (Secretary/Treasurer) and Mrs. Marguérite Britt-Hatma LLM (Member).

We can count on the support of an Advisory Committee of well known authorities, who support us in an excellent manner.

And it goes without saying, that our Project Management Team who has been co-managing our tall ships' visits since 1999, is still on the job. Together we organize our successful events.

And last but not least, the President & CEO together with mr. Renard Hurtado and mr. Jiwan Gonesh form the Executive Committee that handled the organization of Velas Latinoamérica Curaçao 2018 and will do that as well for all future events.
